Raising Critical Consciousness: Five Interactive Strategies to Develop Ethical & Culturally Responsive Clinicians (Feb 2026)

Now more than ever, counselor educators and supervisors must cultivate critical consciousness to better see, validate, and support clients while reducing early dropout rates. This interactive session introduces five structured activities grounded in Freire’s (1970) critical consciousness framework, the MSJCC (Ratts et al., 2016), and intersectionality theory (Crenshaw, 1989) to foster self-reflection, address privilege and oppression, and enhance case conceptualization skills.

Participants will engage in experiential exercises that integrate cultural humility, bias awareness, and advocacy into their teaching and supervision practices, leaving with research-based tools to create inclusive and ethical training environments.

Kimberly Parker (she/her) is the CEO of Revive to Thrive Wellness Center, a Texas-based counseling practice. As a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S), Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC), and Transformative Coach, she specializes in trauma, anxiety, depression, addiction, life transitions, and self-esteem improvement. Committed to culturally humble care, Kimberly empowers individuals and addresses unique challenges faced by marginalized populations. Currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision (CES), she enhances her skills as a clinician and serves as an instructor, clinical supervisor, and researcher. In her educational role, Kimberly supervises provisionally licensed counselors and serves as a speaker and trainer, focusing on cultural humility to better serve marginalized populations. With extensive experience and a passion for promoting cultural humility, Kimberly delivers transformative training for the benefit of attendees and their communities.

This training intentionally balances intellectual learning with embodied awareness. Participants will be invited to notice how conversations about culture, power, and ethics show up in the body and how regulation supports clearer thinking, reduced defensiveness, and more ethical responses in real time.

This training is an invitation...not to be perfect, but to be more aware, accountable, and grounded in how culture and power shape our work.
